On 10 December, we reported that meat contaminated with dioxins from Irish slaughterhouses had appeared in Legnica and Bolesławiec counties. As much as 750 kg of bacon was delivered to a processing plant in our county, of which only approximately 144 kg was withdrawn. The rest was sold.
“This is the situation throughout Poland,” says Zdzisław Król of the Voivodeship Veterinary Inspectorate in Wrocław. “There was no chance of withdrawing the meat that had already entered commercial circulation,” he adds.
The concentration of dioxins in the bacon sold, among other places, in our county exceeded the permissible limit elevenfold. “There is practically no threat to consumers,” Zdzisław Król reassures. – “For this meat to pose a health risk, it would have to be consumed in large quantities and very frequently.”
The withdrawn meat has already been disposed of.
