Officers from posts of the Nadodrze Border Guard Unit conducted checks on the legality of foreigners’ residence in Poland on 16–17 October. Ten Ukrainian citizens were detained. Although they had been granted visas to take up employment in the Republic of Poland, they had in fact used them to leave for or work in another country. (The visas were cancelled.)

“A further 11 foreigners (3 citizens of the United Arab Emirates, 7 Ukrainian citizens and 1 citizen of Moldova) were detained during checks on the legality of their residence because they had overstayed in the Schengen Area or did not have residence documents that would allow them to stay legally in our country,” says Capt. Rafał Potocki, spokesperson for the NoOSG.

He adds: “Officers also detained 3 foreigners (citizens of Eritrea) who had crossed the border in breach of the regulations. After it was established that they held valid residence permits for the territory of the EU, they were instructed of their obligation to return immediately to the country that had issued the permit.”
