Alongside soldiers of the 23rd Artillery Regiment and employees of the Ministry of National Defence, US soldiers stationed at the Bolesławiec barracks took part in the first joint assembly, held on Friday, October 6. After completing their relocation to the Bolesławiec barracks, the US Army personnel began their service and will train side by side with Polish soldiers for the next nine months.

After the report was submitted and the subunits were reviewed by the commander of the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Col. Paweł Świtalski the Polish and American flags were raised. The symbolic act marked the presence of American soldiers in the garrison and the beginning of joint training activities.

Col. Paweł Świtalski:

Above all, I wish you the safe and peaceful performance of the tasks entrusted to you. I invite Colonel Jessey Curry to continue the cooperation we began with your predecessors from the 588 BEB. Through joint action, we are creating a new reality, becoming stronger and contributing to greater security in Europe. I would like you to feel at home here, and I wish you a pleasant stay in Bolesławiec.

The commander of the 82nd Engineer Battalion (BEB), Lt. Col. Jessey Curry, expressed his confidence in the good cooperation that began during the first days of his stay in the Bolesławiec garrison, emphasizing the goodwill shown to his subordinates as well as the provision of good conditions for service.

The latter part of the assembly saw a farewell to the commander of the 1st Self-Propelled Artillery Squadron, Lt. Col. Jarosław Radzimierski, who will take on new military challenges in the Planning Directorate of the General Staff of the Polish Armed Forces. Thanking him for four years of service in the 23rd Artillery Regiment, Col. Świtalski highlighted Lt. Col. Radzimierski’s dedication to service and the high quality of the tasks carried out by the squadron he commanded during exercises and field training. (A delegation of officers presented the departing soldier with a commemorative sabre.)

“I gained valuable experience here, which I hope to use in my further service, and met many outstanding soldiers with whom serving side by side was an honour and a pleasure,” said Lt. Col. Radzimierski.

Friday’s assembly concluded with a parade of subunits of the 23rd Artillery Regiment and the 82nd Engineer Battalion.
