Female police officers from the Social Prevention Team, together with therapists from the Addiction Prevention Section of the Municipal Social Welfare Centre in Lubin, have begun activities in the broad area of drug prevention.
The young people learn from the police officers about the legal consequences of using narcotic substances and consuming alcohol, as well as possessing and supplying drugs, psychoactive substances and other illegal substances. The therapists conduct workshops and discussions with the young people, during which students learn about the harmful effects of using narcotic and psychoactive substances, as well as how they can avoid this harmful addiction and—if they are already addicted—where they can seek help.
To expand drug prevention efforts and reach the people who have the greatest influence on children—that is, parents—separate presentations are organised specifically for them. During the lectures, Łukasz Rachwalski from the Addiction Prevention Office presents the project’s objectives, provides expert knowledge and displays props found in special educational cases. These contain items that young people may have at home or at school and which are used to take and distribute narcotic substances. (The sessions are proving extremely popular with parents.)
The project’s objectives include raising public awareness of drug-related issues and providing information about how drugs and narcotic substances work, as well as criminal liability for possessing, distributing and manufacturing them.
