The building was constructed in the 1960s. For many years, it was managed by the regional hospital, and was subsequently transferred to the city. 78 families lived in the building at 12 Żwirki i Wigury Street.
In the Samotniak, the average area of one apartment was approximately 12 sq m. The apartments had no bathrooms or kitchens. Residents had access only to shared washrooms and kitchens on individual floors. In recent years, residents were relocated to other apartments to allow the building to be modernized.
The renovated building will contain 29 new apartments for rent. The apartments will be finished to a turnkey standard. Their area will range from 30 to 63 sq m. The building will be adapted to the needs of people with disabilities. A passenger elevator, a stroller and wheelchair storage room, and a drying room are planned for the building.
Interior demolition work is currently underway. This is the first stage of the building’s modernization. The work is being carried out by Profi of Bolesławiec. The cost of the demolition work is PLN 271,552. Modernization work at 12 Żwirki i Wigury Street will take several months.
