Following the publication in the media of a description of the wanted Ryszard W. and photographs showing several possible variations of his appearance, information from various regions of the country began reaching the officers. Each report was carefully verified.
The result? The man was arrested last night in the Wielkopolska Voivodeship. He was completely taken by surprise. (The arrest was carried out by police officers from Koło County, supported by counterterrorism officers from Poznań and the Łowcy Głów [Head Hunters] team).
Let us recall: the crime, in which the arrested man was an accomplice, took place at night on 21 June 2017 in Dobrzyce (Wielkopolskie Voivodeship). After breaking into and robbing a petrol station in Dobrzyce, W. fled the scene of the crime together with another person. Both burglars were spotted near Milicz by a police patrol, which attempted to stop them. Despite the visual and audible signals, the perpetrators did not stop for inspection and tried to escape in the stolen Skoda Octavia.
They abandoned the car on one of the roads in a forest complex and continued their escape on foot. One of the men fired a firearm at the officers, wounding one of them in the neck. The second officer used his service weapon against the attacker, wounding him in the lower parts of his body. The man died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
The other suspect—Ryszard W.—managed to escape into the forest at that time. The Lower Silesian Police Commander in Wrocław offered a reward of PLN 10,000 for information indicating the wanted man's whereabouts.
