For the third time, people gathered outside the courthouse in Bolesławiec. The Chain of Light action began at 9:00 p.m. on Sunday, July 23. Around 300 people demonstrated. It was an expression of opposition to PiS policy, particularly the reform of the judiciary (the Supreme Court). This was already the third such action outside the District Court in Bolesławiec. Earlier, groups of several dozen people gathered on Sunday, July 16, and Friday, July 21.

People sang the national anthem and chanted slogans including: “We want the president’s veto,” “Free courts,” and “Freedom, equality, democracy.” They also arranged the slogan “3 x Veto” from votive candles. The people gathered outside the courthouse also thanked the police for their help and protection and sang “Sto lat” to the officers on the occasion of Police Day, which was to be celebrated the following day.

The candles were extinguished and cleaned up by courthouse employees several minutes after the action, on the orders of their superiors. No further gathering outside the courthouse is currently planned. Whether people will continue gathering outside the courthouse largely depends on President Andrzej Duda’s decision.
