On 21 July, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. signed an agreement at the Lower Silesian Voivodeship Office for the implementation of the “Works on railway line no. 289 on the Legnica–Rudna Gwizdanów section” project. The main effect of the investment will be an improvement in the transport system in Lower Silesia.

– Signing the agreement to modernise the Legnica–Rudna Gwizdanów railway line is an extremely important event for me. Thanks to the investment, passenger trains will connect the most important cities of the Copper Basin – Głogów, Lubin and Legnica. I know from residents and local government officials that everyone has been waiting for this. Access to rail transport will improve, and our region will receive an economic boost. I am keeping my fingers crossed for the smooth completion of all the work – says Paweł Hreniak, Lower Silesian Voivode.

A short journey, a new passenger service standard

The PLK investment will make it possible to launch convenient passenger connections between the main centres of the Copper Basin: Legnica, Lubin and Głogów. Passenger trains will travel twice as fast, at 120 km/h. Travel time will be cut in half, from more than an hour to approximately 30 minutes.

– PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. has signed another agreement for an investment that will improve regional transport. The result will be the possibility of restoring passenger services from Legnica to Rudna Gwizdanów and better connections between the cities of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The modernised line will significantly increase the capacity available to freight operators – says Arnold Bresch, member of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.

Passenger service standards will improve at 10 stations and stops. Renovated platforms will provide convenient access to trains. The facilities will be well lit and clearly marked. Appropriate access for people with reduced mobility has been taken into account. The construction of a new Lubin Stadion stop is planned. It will be located approximately 1.5 km from Lubin Górniczy station. The new, functional platform will be equipped, among other things, with shelters, seats and ramps facilitating access to the facility.
