The event consisted of three parts. The first was a Mass for the settlers who arrived in the western lands from the South-Eastern Borderlands. After the Mass, symbolic bouquets of flowers were laid beneath the obelisk located in the centre of the village, commemorating the first settlers in Bolesławiec municipality.
Next, a colourful procession made up of musical groups and village residents went to the sports field, where the artistic part of the event began. The Mały Bolesławiec Song and Dance Ensemble from the Youth Cultural Centre opened its performance with a polonaise and also invited the audience to dance.
A “Bachelors – Married Men” football match was also played for the Bolesławiec municipality mayor’s cup. It turned out that the Bachelors displayed greater skill. The Żeliszów Singing Ensemble also presented its vocal talents, alternating cheerful songs with even more cheerful jokes. There were also instrumental performances. Paweł Pachołekplayed the accordion for the festival guests.
Another pleasant highlight was a performance by Olga Burdyna, who came second at the Kazimierz nad Wisłą Festival this year. For this tremendous achievement, she received flowers and congratulations from Bolesławiec municipality mayor Andrzej Dutkowski.
A cabbage-pounding demonstration by Olga Burdyna, the village head of Żeliszów, and Bolesławiec county head Karol Stasik provided a break between the stage performances. Both demonstrated not only practical skills but also a great sense of humour. Meanwhile, members of the Society of Friends of Lviv and the South-Eastern Borderlands and the Leśne Nastroje ensemble from Dobra performed on stage. The Retro cabaret from Trzebień invited the festival audience to enjoy a dose of good humour; its sketch from the film “Sami Swoi” made the audience cry with laughter.
They were followed by the Fudżijamki ensemble from Proboszczów, already well known in Bolesławiec municipality. Then it was time for the headline act: the Zbyraż from Ukraine.
The event was organised by the “Żeliszowski Potok” Association, the Village Council, the Żeliszów Rural Housewives’ Circle and the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn. More information is available on the website of Bolesławiec municipality.
