Magda MAGIC Piskorczyk is a multiple-award-winning vocalist and multi-instrumentalist. She has been nominated three times for the Fryderyk, the most prestigious award in the Polish recording industry. She was a semi-finalist twice in the International Blues Challenge, the world’s most important blues competition, held in Memphis, Tennessee, USA. She has been named Blues Top magazine “Twój Blues”’s Blues Vocalist of the Year nine times. In France, she was called la voix noire et au costume blanc (the black voice in the white suit).

She sings with a mature, low, “black” voice and plays acoustic, electric and bass guitars, as well as percussion instruments. She mainly performs music rooted in African-American and African traditions. She arranges and composes, regularly performs with her band, and has appeared at numerous international festivals, including in Germany, England, Sweden, Norway, Hungary, France, the USA and Taiwan.

Magda’s music is original without being eccentric, faithful to its roots yet contemporary, very economical in form and full of emotion.

The new album “The Other Side Of The Blue”, released in the year marking 25 years of her artistic career, is a thank-you to the musicians who have worked with her over the years and to her wonderful audience.

The album was created in collaboration with Poznań guitarist and vocalist Maciej Sobczak. It consists of two discs featuring ten songs in two language versions, English and Polish.

Besides the Piskorczyk/Sobczak duo, the English lyrics were written by Graham Crawford and Maciej Błażej Kręc, while the Polish lyrics were written by Aleksandra Górecka.

Magda MAGIC Piskorczyk about the single “Ogień”:

I originally wrote the song in English, which you will also be able to hear on the album’s second disc. I had been thinking about a bilingual album for a long time, and I am very happy that I have been able to fulfill this dream. For some time, I had also wanted to write songs together with my friend Ola Górecka, an extraordinary musical poet with a genius feel for rhythm and melody and a view of the world so similar to my own.

And she adds:

It was clear to me whom I would ask to write all the Polish lyrics for my new album. Musically, I was accompanied by outstanding bandmates and invited guests. “Ogień” is the first single I am placing in your hands—or rather, ears. Give it a listen; I am sure many of you will find yourselves in this story.
