During a session of the Bolesławiec City Council held in July last year, Barbara Smoleńska, head of the Society of Lwów and Southeastern Borderlands Enthusiasts and coordinator of the exceptional campaign to save Polish cemeteries in the Borderlands, “Save the Grave of Your Great-Grandfather from Oblivion,” mentioned that the mayor of Zbarazh had become so involved in the Lower Silesian campaign that his officials devoted one day a year to working in a cemetery, while only the secretary remained at the office.
Today, Bolesławiec deputy mayor Kornel Filipowicz also mentioned this while telling councillors about the City’s cooperation with Zbarazh in Ukraine. Opposition councillor Dariusz Mucha then spoke and suggested that Bolesławiec officials do the same—devote one day a year to tidying our cemeteries. He added that he himself would gladly take part in such an initiative. K. Filipowicz replied that he would discuss it with Piotr Roman.
What do you think? Should officials—following the example of their Ukrainian colleagues—devote one day to this type of activity? We invite you to join the discussion.
