– Everyone who behaves in accordance with the regulations will help reduce the number of accidents and unnecessary tragedies on the tracks. 98 percent of accidents at level crossings result from drivers’ carelessness. Let’s put a barrier up against risk! Let us remember that stopping before a crossing and behaving safely means a successful holiday trip and happy returns – appeals Marek Olkiewicz, Deputy President of the Management Board of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A.

Rule – COMMON SENSE!

Safety is a priority in the activities of PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. On Friday, June 23, as part of the Safe Crossing – “Barrier Against Risk!” campaign, further holiday activities began at level crossings. Throughout the holiday period, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. and the Railway Protection Guard will be present at hundreds of level crossings. They will remind drivers and pedestrians how to behave properly. Several tens of thousands of leaflets informing people about proper conduct in railway areas will be handed to drivers and pedestrians.

Last holiday season, drivers caused 36 accidents. Apart from abandoning common sense, the most frequent offences committed by drivers include failing to react to the STOP sign, trying to drive under closing barriers, and going around half-barriers.

“Safe Crossing…”, or Barrier Against Risk!

In 2016, nearly 400 information and prevention campaigns were conducted as part of Safe Fridays. More than 30,000 leaflets were handed to drivers. The Railway Protection Guard issued nearly 200 warnings. A total of 123 fines were issued and more than 700 sobriety checks were carried out.

The Safe Crossing – “Barrier Against Risk!” public campaign is one of the largest in Europe. In 2015, in Brussels, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. received recognition for improving safety at level crossings as part of the European Road Safety Charter. In November 2016, PKP Polskie Linie Kolejowe S.A. was also one of the winners of the “Safety Culture in Rail Transport” competition, organized by the Office of Rail Transport, for the Safe Crossing – “Barrier Against Risk!” public campaign.
