The Most Important Light Is Natural

It is the most natural for our eyesight, so, whenever possible, a room with southern- or western-facing windows should be chosen for a workspace, as natural light lasts longest there. The desk should be positioned so that the light falls from behind. This ensures comfortable reading and prevents shadows from forming while writing. However, this arrangement is not recommended when using a computer, as daylight will be reflected in the monitor, causing considerable discomfort and eye strain.

Artificial Lighting

In an office or study room, it should be varied and take into account the needs of individual work areas. Naturally, general lighting for the entire room should be planned. The best options are lamps providing even illumination that allows basic tasks to be performed.

Planning the lighting for the workstation requires the greatest care. At a desk used for reading and writing, a standing lamp or a clip-on lamp providing focused light is sufficient. It must be positioned so that it does not cast a shadow while writing: on the left for right-handed people and on the right for left-handed people.

We are spending more and more time in front of computer or laptop screens. Although screen quality is improving, they still have a negative effect on eyesight, causing considerable fatigue. Proper lighting can partly compensate for this. First, it should be placed behind the monitor; second, its intensity and colour should be adjusted so that the contrast with the monitor’s light is as low as possible.

As specialists from Lamp-wall-lights-lighting.dom.pl remind us, drafting-board lighting requires special attention. Technical drawings require a very high degree of precision. In this case, small LED lamps placed along the upper and side edges of the board work best; lighting from different directions will prevent shadows from forming. It is worth remembering that rooms intended for work are much better suited to bulbs with cool, white light, which has a stimulating effect.

Other elements should also be taken care of in the workplace. A desk adjusted to the user’s height and an ergonomic chair that ensures proper posture will provide comfort and protect against ailments associated with sedentary work, such as back and wrist pain.
