They are called the fire service, yet 70 percent of their activities are not related to extinguishing fires. This was among the points recalled during a Firefighter’s Day ceremony held on Thursday, May 4.
The celebrations began with a mass at the Bolesławiec Basilica, followed by a ceremonial assembly at the Wedding Palace, during which the Bolesławiec County PSP commander, Senior Brigadier Grzegorz Kocon, thanked both the uniformed personnel of the Bolesławiec unit and volunteer firefighters for their service. The ceremony also provided an opportunity to present promotions to higher ranks. They were awarded to:
- Paweł Leń – firefighter
- Grzegorz Mielczarek – firefighter
- Dominik Sługocki – firefighter
- Krzysztof Milko – junior firefighter
- Paweł Szydłowski – junior firefighter
- Marcin Kowal – senior section officer
- Sławomir Kowalik – senior section officer
- Dawid Mierzwa – senior section officer
- Tomasz Nestorowicz – senior firefighter
- Mateusz Borowiak – senior firefighter.
By decision of Senior Brigadier G. Kocon, the following will take up higher positions:
- Radosław Ćwik – senior rescue driver
- Piotr Szwed – senior rescue driver
- Grzegorz Mielczarek – senior rescuer.
It is also worth noting that an equipment presentation by the uniformed personnel was held in the Market Square, where children had the opportunity, for example, to try on a helmet and sit in a fire engine.
