The subject of advertising was raised at the latest session of the City Council by Bogusław Nowak of PO. “We are observing an ever-greater explosion of advertising in the city. Streets located in the very center, often historic, with a unique character and beautiful architectural form, are being covered with the most garish colors and forms,” the councilor said during Wednesday’s meeting. “Today, on my way to the session, I saw an incredible advertisement opposite the entrance to the town hall. Can the so-called anything-goes approach in the city be standardized?” he asked.
Bolesławiec Market Square is covered by a historic-preservation protection zone. “The advertisement was installed illegally,” Piotr Żak, the city architect, explained during the session. The tenant of a shoe shop put a bright advertising message on the façade of one of the Market Square’s tenement houses without the consent of the historic-preservation officer.
Last week, the municipal police intervened in the matter and issued the shop owner a PLN 500 fine. The advertisement has already disappeared.
This week, officials and the municipal police will check whether businesses that installed advertisements on building façades in the city have met all formal requirements. “The advertisement in the Market Square was an exceptionally clear signal that this matter needed to be addressed,” Emil Zając, commander of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police, told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. What is more, the city authorities are preparing a resolution that will specify the rules for placing advertising messages on buildings in the city center.
