On Tuesday, April 18, the first public consultations began at the Municipal Stadium in Wrocław. They were led by Jerzy Michalak, a member of the regional government. This year, as previously, PLN 600,000 has been allocated to civic projects.
For the second time, Lower Silesia residents will be able to participate in making decisions about funding selected projects related to promoting sport and the tourism offer in our region. “Residents of Lower Silesia can submit their ideas, discuss them and then choose the best solutions in a vote. The program was hugely popular last year. More than 110,000 people cast their votes in the pilot civic budget!” says Jerzy Michalak, a member of the regional government.
Thanks to last year’s PLN 600,000 allocation from the Lower Silesian civic budget, 18 sports and tourism projects selected by public vote received financial support. “The regional government has been financing the development of sports facilities throughout the region for years. Over the past several years, we have invested several dozen million zlotys in building new sports facilities. We also actively support the development of sports programs, through which thousands of children in Lower Silesia learn to swim and receive additional sports activities. Our civic budget is an additional way of building activity among Lower Silesia residents. Thanks to this program, residents of our region can decide for themselves which projects will be funded,” notes Marshal Cezary Przybylski.
This year’s budget, like the previous one, will be implemented throughout the region, with funds distributed among five Lower Silesian subregions: Jelenia Góra, Wałbrzych, Legnica, Wrocław and the city of Wrocław. The total budget is PLN 600,000. The money may be used to carry out initiatives contributing to the development and promotion of sport and tourism in Lower Silesia, excluding activities previously co-financed from the regional budget and infrastructure projects. These may include tourism events, local sports competitions, rallies, tours, conferences and seminars on tourism development, regional promotion, the promotion of local products and tourist attractions, as well as publications of a tourism-related nature.
The consultations will continue until June 9. Applications may be submitted from June 12 to 25. Voting will take place from July 17 to 30. The list of winners will be announced in August.
