The manager of the Bolesławiec municipal cemetery informed us about the matter Dariusz Filistyński, drawing our attention to the fact that although the regulations governing the Bolesławiec cemetery prohibit bringing animals onto its grounds, people still violate the ban. What is more, it sometimes happens that a dog relieves itself in the cemetery and its owner has no intention of cleaning up after it. This may result in a fine of up to PLN 500.
We asked the commander of the Bolesławiec Municipal Police about the scale of the problem. “There have been several reports,” istotne.pl was told by Kamila Chalewicz-Pudłowska.
However, according to the head of the Municipal Police, the problem is more widespread. “This brings us back to the issue of responsibility for one’s pet,” the officer stresses. She recalls that under the city’s cleanliness regulations and the Code of Petty Offences, dogs must be walked on a leash and owners must clean up after them. “I congratulate the owners who say they would swear on their lives that their pet would never do anything to anyone,” says K. Chalewicz-Pudłowska. “An animal acts instinctively. It is no coincidence that the number of recorded dog bites has remained similar for several years—more than 160 cases annually in Bolesławiec County.
What is more, it is very easy to become infected with bacteria found in animal feces. The problem primarily affects small children, who may come across uncleared feces, for example, in a sandbox. “Until people understand this, nothing will change,” stresses the head of the Municipal Police. “Still, things are better now, because in the past nobody cleaned up after dogs.”
