For several decades, young people from Bolesławiec have taken part in the European Taizé Youth Meetings, which are organized in various European locations at the turn of December and January. – This coming Saturday, each of us will have the opportunity to participate in such a prayer meeting, all thanks to Brother Wojciech from the Taizé Community in France, who will visit Bolesławiec on March 25 – says Rev. Piotr Kruczyk from the parish of Our Lady of Perpetual Help.
What is the Taizé Community?
This year marks 68 years since Brother Roger and his companions took their first vows. They decided to live in post-war Europe according to Christian ideals, rising above religious and national divisions. Taizé is a village of peace, where young people from around the world can find peace of heart and turn their eyes toward Christ. This special place is cared for by a community of more than 100 brothers of different nationalities, from over 30 countries. Poles are also among them. They include both Catholics and Protestants from various denominations. The community also travels around the world to reach as many places and people as possible who long for peace and love. Wherever the Taizé Community is present, prayers for peace and the unity of Christians resound.
Since 1978, the brothers of Taizé have organized the European Youth Meetings, held each year at the turn of December and January in different European locations. Poland has also hosted such meetings: in Wrocław (1989, 1995), Warsaw (1999), and Poznań (2009). Thousands of young Europeans take part in them. Annual trips to these meetings are also organized from our city. The most recent one took place in Riga, the capital of Latvia.
