When we were preparing material about tree felling on the banks of the Bóbr, we noticed that beneath the bridge on Zgorzelecka Street in Bolesławiec there was a huge number of broken bottles from various types of alcohol. There are also plenty of beer cans. Judging by the amount of broken glass, this is probably one of the most popular outdoor spots in our city for heavily alcohol-fuelled parties.
We have written many times in these pages about the mess that dirty people leave by the Bóbr. We have also often asked for comments on the matter—from the municipal police on some occasions and from the Municipal Housing Management Company on others. We understand that this problem cannot be eliminated completely. We know that officers cannot remain on duty in one place around the clock. So perhaps—possibly somewhat naively—we should appeal to fans of drinking outdoors: when they finish partying, they should take their bottles with them and not smash them there for fun. All the more so now, with spring approaching, when Bolesławiec residents will certainly visit the boulevard along the Bóbr more often, quite frequently with small children.
It is also worth recalling the words of Bolesławiec Municipal Police commander Kamila Chalewicz-Pudłowska from 2015:
People need to realise that this boulevard is our common good and that we should take care of it, so that those who come here do not have to constantly look at litter lying around and watch out for dog excrement. After all, this is not exclusively the city's area. This is our area.
