An opportunity to strengthen mutual relations, apart from exercises and training carried out side by side by Polish and American soldiers, is joint participation in cultural and sporting events taking place in the area where allied troops are stationed.

On Wednesday afternoon, a basketball game provided such an opportunity. The soldiers had been invited by the authorities of PGE Turów Zgorzelec and the town’s mayor. Before entering Turów Arena, the group of around a dozen American soldiers was welcomed by the club’s president, Jack Stachyra, and then, already in the stands, received a warm welcome from the fans and audience.

The Americans cheered for the team from Zgorzelec, and they paid particular attention to the play of four US players on the roster: Davida Jacksona, Kirka Archibeque’a, Denisa Ikovleva and point guard Demonda Cartera, who scored 19 points in the game.

The fierce competition on the court translated into excitement among the spectators, who reacted enthusiastically to every dynamic play and accurate shot. After an even contest, the game in the twentieth round of the Polish Basketball League ended with a two-point defeat for the Zgorzelec team. After the game, the soldiers met with the club’s authorities and shared their impressions of the match.
