We first encountered the work of Kacper “Kuku” Kukawski, a student at Bolesławiec’s “Handlówka,” at the premiere of the moving film Przemysław Kania made about Siberian deportee Maria Niemczuk. The rapper performed the excellent song “Dear Poland” then. “I love Poland,” Kacper tells istotne.pl. “I hate politics, but Poland is my place. I love this country for its history; there is no other like it. Poles are a proud nation, as they proved, among other things, during the war—they knew they had no chance, but they continued to fight anyway. I am eternally grateful to them for that.”
Although he really likes the work of PiH, a rapper from Białystok, he tries to develop his own style and copy no one. “I write about what is happening around me,” he emphasizes. “There are sad songs, but there are also cheerful ones, for example about holidays. I do not limit myself to one subject.”
Hip-hop has accompanied the Bolesławiec rapper since his earliest years. His uncle, who listened to Jeden Osiem L and Libera, introduced him to the music. “Then I began discovering other artists, and after some time I became jealous that they were so good at it,” Kacper recalls. “I thought that I wanted to do it too.”
His first attempts began four years ago, and his first lyrics and recordings were created. Kacper’s stage debut came during his middle-school years. Later, the rapper had the opportunity to perform at the Days of Bolesławiec and various outdoor events. He also organizes charity concerts himself, including ones for a friend who won his battle with leukemia. “Whenever I have time, I help people,” the hip-hop artist adds.
Soon, he can be seen on stage in Lwówek Śląski, where a charity concert will be held for a woman suffering from malignant bone cancer.
“Dear Poland”
Ref: My dear Poland, so much is happening here,
You are finally free, though so much is still broken.
Despite everything, I am proud of my heritage,
I will give You my life if there is a need.Poland is my country and I was born here,
I have lived here through 17 beautiful springs,
I associate all my beautiful moments with this place,
I will not give up my Poland; it is priceless to me.
It is senseless, what politicians in the country do,
They wipe their mouths with the emblem, saying everything will be fine.
These are sick, ordinary, empty words,
Let’s set things right and start anew.
Head held high, I carry an Eagle in my heart,
I have a white conscience and red blood,
I am a patriot, you know?
I respect other countries, but I bow only to my Poland.
I do not whisper when they ask where I am from.
We have a beautiful history; we won the war,
The August sky, 63 days of glory, millions gave their lives for the Fatherland.
