There are currently more than 330 sport shooting ranges in Poland. The Ministry of Sport wants there to be more, the daily “Rzeczpospolita” reported. The Ministry of Sport and Tourism, in cooperation with the Ministry of the Interior and Administration and the Ministry of National Defence, “is considering creating a programme to popularise sport shooting in Poland. One of its elements would be a network of inexpensive, publicly accessible sport shooting ranges.” The programme, the newspaper wrote, may be associated with Tusk’s Orliks. It added that, according to PiS MP Stanisław Pięta, every municipality should have a shooting range allowing the use of handguns and air guns, while every county should have one for long guns.
“It is a good idea,” istotne.pl was told by Bogdan Fiałkowski, deputy head of the Association of Former Soldiers of the 62nd Special Company “Commando”, which often organises shooting competitions. “All the more so because there is such an emphasis on developing uniformed classes: already 55,000 students across Poland. And at one point, a single law took all air rifles and small-bore rifles away from schools.
“Commando has a shooting range in Stanisławów; there are such facilities in Złotoryja, Legnica and Lubań,” B. Fiałkowski lists. “There is not such a great shortage of shooting ranges in our area. The shooting range in Bolesławiec could simply be improved further. It meets all the requirements and has all the certificates. It is important that there be an opportunity to train in dynamic shooting.”
According to Commando’s deputy head, such a network of shooting ranges would also be needed in connection with the Territorial Defence Force. “They must know how to shoot,” he stresses. “The idea is good, provided these are not just slogans and the government does not delegate everything to local authorities.”
