Eleven employers and several hundred unemployed people—this was the second Local Job Fair, organised by the Bolesławiec District Employment Office and the Complex of Comprehensive and Vocational Schools on Komuny Paryskiej Street. “We sent invitations to 150 employers,” Ewa Hryciów, director of the Employment Office, told the IstotneInformacje.pl portal. “We were aware that many companies would not apply.” Few employers want to hire new workers in autumn. This year’s fair was organised after a one-year break—this time it took place in the gymnasium of the Complex of Comprehensive and Vocational Schools. “We wanted to provide unemployed people with greater comfort when talking to employers,” emphasises Jolanta Witek, deputy director of the Employment Office. “And, as you can see, people turned up,” she adds.

Unemployment in our district is falling. Its rate currently stands at 11.3% (at the end of last year, it was as high as 13.8%). Ms Aneta from Bolesławiec decided to visit the fair because, as she admits, it was difficult for her to find work on her own, especially since she is not looking for a full-time job. Bogdan and Krzysztof have been unemployed since April. “There are many interesting offers at the fair, but it is difficult to find a good job,” says Mr Bogdan. “Employers’ requirements are high, while wages are, unfortunately, very low,” adds Mr Krzysztof.

At this year’s fair, staff were sought by, among others: Fabryka Naczyń Kamionkowych „Manufaktura”, Bader, PKS, MZK and Gerresheimer. The stand of Hoerbiger, the first investor in the Bolesławiec economic subzone, attracted the greatest interest.

Is it worthwhile organising fairs of this kind? Ewa Hryciów has no doubts about it. “We will certainly organise them more often,” the director assures. “Employers are currently looking for workers. These fairs will definitely help companies recruit staff,” she adds.
