The Ziemia Bolesławiecka Association has held public benefit organization status since 2004. In previous years, taxpayers supported the association with amounts exceeding PLN 10,000. This year saw a record. The organization raised nearly PLN 84,000. Around 900 people from across Poland made donations, including residents of Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Kraków, Warsaw, Szczecin and Katowice. The largest donation exceeded PLN 11,000!
According to Edmund Maliński, the association’s treasurer, three factors determined the success. “First, the procedure for transferring money was simplified,” Maliński explains. Previously, taxpayers had to transfer 1% of their tax themselves to the account of the organization concerned. This year, it was enough to enter the organization’s name, KRS number and amount in the appropriate section of the tax return.
Second, in 2008, Ziemia Bolesławiecka, together with other public benefit organizations, conducted a broad information campaign encouraging taxpayers to donate 1% of their tax. Third, parishes from Bolesławiec and the surrounding area joined the initiative.
From the funds collected in this way, the Ziemia Bolesławiecka Association has already donated more than PLN 37,000 to help people in need. Among other things, the organization financed a rehabilitation stay for a child with a disability and provided financial support for the treatment and rehabilitation of a girl who was struck by lightning in June this year.
