On Sunday, January 15, another edition of the New Year’s Volleyball Tournament took place. Eight teams competed in the event, held in sports halls in Bożejowice and Kruszyn, and were divided into two groups.
On the court in Kruszyn, BTS Masters finished the competition with a perfect record. Along with Mirko, they advanced to the next stage of the tournament. Osiecznica and the firefighters from KP PSP in Bolesławiec finished their tournament campaigns in the lower positions. In the hall in Bożejowice, the group stage was won by Bart-Music, who, together with the players of the local Bożejowice team, completed the semifinal lineup. The remaining places went to Drugiego Sortu and Bobry Kraszowice.
After a regenerative break, the final part of the tournament was played. In the first semifinal, the teams from Bożejowice and BTS faced each other. In a very close three-set match, Masters came out on top. Bart-Music won the second semifinal, comfortably defeating their opponents from Mirko. The final sporting highlights of the event were the third-place match and the grand final. The hosts from Bożejowice took the lowest step of the podium, defeating the friendly Mirko team in two sets. Bart-Music proved to be the best and undefeated team in this year’s New Year’s Tournament, giving BTS Masters little chance in the final.
At the end of the tournament, as tradition dictates, certificates, trophies and prizes were presented. For the first time in the tournament’s long history, a special award for the best player was also presented. It went to a representative of the winning team, Michał Lipa. The commemorative prizes were presented by Roman Jaworski, deputy head of Gmina Bolesławiec, and Bogusław Uziej, chairman of the Bolesławiec Gmina Council.
The event was organized by the Municipal Culture and Sports Centre in Bolesławiec, based in Kruszyn.
