Developing our manual skills—in other words, art

“Our Sky”—a bas-relief, composition and wall mosaic inspired by the birds that fly over our city. Katarzyna Zarówny and acclaimed ceramic artists Edyta Orlińska and Mateusz Grobelny will lead five-day clay classes for students aged 10–16. Similar ceramic workshops were also held in 2015 under the title “Rainbow Worlds” and in 2016 under the title “The Sea Illuminated by Thousands of Colours”. They proved extremely popular, and the wonderful works—specially illuminated—are currently displayed in the office of the Mayor of Bolesławiec and in the BOK-MCC foyer.
The result of this year’s work will be installed in Bolesławiec; the vernissage will traditionally take place on Children’s Day /13–17 February, 10:00–13:00, ceramics studio, 2nd floor, BOK-MCC.

“Vistula—Sisters and Brothers”—educational and creative spatial activities led by ceramic artist Czesław Matyjewicz for young people aged 15–18. This unusual project was inspired by the announcement that 2017 would be the Year of the Vistula River. Participants will create an art installation covering the entire gallery area (89 m2). The installation will include a “model” made of paper, attached to the floor, on which the outlines of the Vistula, Oder and Bóbr rivers will be drawn (hence the title). An aqueduct formed from clay will then be built along the drawn rivers. Finally, participants will send glass marbles through the aqueduct, symbolising water, the river and its importance for the cities located within the reach of these rivers. The resulting art installation can be viewed in the “mała Biała” Gallery until 3 March of this year /20–24 February, 10:00–12:00, “mała Biała” Gallery, BOK-MCC
