Let us recall: the tragedy occurred on New Year’s Eve, before midnight, on Sobieskiego Street in Jelenia Góra. The 27-year-old driver, a Ukrainian national, was driving a Jeep Grand Cherokee when, for unknown reasons, he left the road, struck two teenage girls, aged 14 and 16, broke through the barriers and fell into the river.

The driver was drunk. Both he and the 23-year-old Jeep passenger were taken to hospital with minor injuries. The 27-year-old faces up to 12 years in prison.
