Bolesławiec Municipal Police have been taking action for many years to reduce various types of threats in the city. One problem is that residents often feed stray animals by leaving buckets of food next to waste-bin enclosures or outside the entrances to stairwells. In addition, Bolesławiec residents very often leave the enclosures open, with unlocked waste containers inside.

All it takes is for a marten, fox or another animal to pull out and tear open a bag, and it will always find something to eat. “This is an example of irresponsible behaviour demonstrating a complete lack of imagination,” municipal police officers say. “Stray animals, including wild boars, foxes, martens and others, will naturally appear in such places. In this way, we ourselves create a real threat to health and life, especially that of our children.”

They add: “For wild animals, this is very convenient. Not only do they have plenty of food in the city, but they also do not have to make the effort to hunt. Moreover, they pose a serious danger on the road and spread various diseases.”

The officers also remind residents that leaving food scraps behind is an offence. (“Anyone who pollutes or litters places accessible to the public, in particular a road, street, square, garden, lawn or green area, is subject to a fine of up to PLN 500.”).
