The second missing miner is Arkadiusz S.
A rescue operation has been underway since Tuesday, involving 13 teams from the Mining and Metallurgical Rescue Unit. Thirty people were in the danger zone; 9 of them were taken to hospitals with head, spinal and limb injuries. One person died after being brought to the surface; the second was found by rescuers, and a doctor pronounced him dead at the scene.
Radosław Domagalski-Łabędzki, president of KGHM Polska Miedź S.A., declared four days of mourning. Some St. Barbara's Day celebrations have been cancelled – miners' beer feasts, women's miners' gatherings and the Major Fox Parade.
