On Saturday, 26 November, the “Elektryczni” faced UKS Volley Żarów. In the first set, the visitors proved more effective. (We won that set 25–23.) The next set also went to us (25–18). Unfortunately, in the third set, the volleyball players from the City of Ceramics became complacent. The hosts found their rhythm and won the set 25–22, and in the fourth set they demolished the Bolesławiec team 25–9. Fortunately, the old volleyball saying that if you do not win 3:0, you lose 2:3 did not come true. In the tie-break, the BTS Elektros seniors played brilliantly again, winning the set 15–12 and the entire match 3:2.
“We won the first set somewhat fortunately, while the second went smoothly. And once again we began to believe that we would easily and pleasantly win 3:0,” comments the “Elektryczni” coach Marcin Sobczyszyn. “When things are too easy, we start thinking that the match will win itself. We are really pleased with these two points; they are a bonus before the return round. But we cannot make mistakes like that. We came out for the third set unfocused and began making errors in reception and serving. Nervousness crept into our play.”
It is worth adding that, as in previous matches, several—this time three—players from the BTS Elektros starting lineup were absent against Volley. Middle blocker Mateusz Świerzewski is recovering from an ankle injury. Outside hitter Paweł Kozłowski and opposite hitter Wojciech Nitecki are also injured.
The “Elektryczni” ended the first phase of the regular season with their victory over Żarów. “Considering our squad and budget, it can be considered a successful one,” says the coach of the Bolesławiec team. “Before the season, we set eighth place as the minimum objective, which gives us the right to play in the playoffs and avoids a battle to stay in the league. We have nine points, and the win over Żarów is pleasing. We had counted on three points, admittedly, but we cannot complain,” adds Jacek Łuczkowski, president of the Bolesławiec Volleyball Association. “We have to forget this match and prepare for the next opponent.”
After Saturday’s victory, the “Elektryczni” are eighth in the table. The return round begins next Saturday. In the first match, the Bolesławiec volleyball players will host Bielawianka Bielawa. “They are a difficult opponent. Fans, be with us!” appeals the head of BTS. Their next match will be an away game against Chrobry Głogów. The “Elektryczni” will play their final match of the year at home. On 17 December, they will face the university team from Zielona Góra.
