Law and Justice politicians will not appear in Bolesławiec on Sunday at the ceremony unveiling the Memorial Plaque for the Victims of the Smolensk Disaster. They are offended because, as they say, their suggestions regarding the plaque’s location were not taken into account. Apparently, there was also another issue, which they do not want to discuss.
“We wholeheartedly support installing such a plaque; great Poles from all political groups died there,” says Jan Russ, a County Councilor representing Law and Justice. “We are grateful that Mr. Jabłoński initiated this ceremony, but we believe this location is insufficient to honor such worthy people. There are other reasons as well, which I will not discuss at this time. We do not want to spoil this event, but we will not take part in it.
“We unofficially learned that local PiS politicians sent a dramatic appeal to their members of parliament, asking them not to come to tomorrow’s ceremony,” says Agnieszka Gergont, spokesperson for the Municipal Office. “It is all strange. The fact is that PiS did not approve of the location. The mayor therefore organized a meeting for all parties involved in constructing the plaque. Unfortunately, everyone attended the meeting except PiS politicians.
“I was informed by local PiS structures that this initiative would be misused for political activities. I was warned that it would not be an initiative in which all intentions were clear,” PiS senator istotne.pl Rafał Ślusarz says in an interview with
istotne.pl. “No one even gave me a chance to join this initiative, although I certainly would not have been idle. It is one thing that I was excluded from it, but the fact is that this was the initiating group’s right,” the senator explained. Law and Justice MP Marzena Machałek will also not come to Bolesławiec. “I received an invitation, but unfortunately I cannot attend because I have many ceremonies in Jelenia Góra. I do not know anything about no one from PiS attending. I think someone will come after all,” Marzena Machałek says in an interview with
istotne.pl. Journalists at
istotne.pllearned that among the donations for constructing the plaque there were no contributions from PiS, while money came from other political organizations. The ceremony unveiling the Memorial Plaque for the Victims of the Smolensk Disaster will begin on Sunday, November 13, at 2:15 p.m., by the defensive walls on Kubika Street. (The ceremony will be preceded by Mass at the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help at Zamkowy Square. It will begin at 1:00 p.m.)
The plaque was funded by the residents of Bolesławiec.
