The duty officer at the District Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec received information about a driver who had probably got behind the wheel under the influence of alcohol. When officers arrived at the scene, it turned out that two other drivers had taken the keys to the heavy goods vehicle away from the 29-year-old foreign national. They did so because they had noticed how ineptly he was manoeuvring the vehicle in the car park. (The man damaged his own fuel tank.) Since the drivers suspected that the lorry driver might be drunk, they prevented him from driving any further.

Their suspicions were confirmed. The 29-year-old had nearly 3‰ of alcohol in his system. The foreign national was detained, and the vehicle was handed over to the owner of the company where the 29-year-old worked. The suspect admitted that he had previously been drinking alcohol with a colleague, but stressed that he had got behind the wheel only to move the vehicle.

He now faces up to two years in prison.
