Police operations in Lower Silesia connected with the observance of All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day will begin as early as October 28 and continue until November 2. As part of Operation Candle, traffic officers will carry out activities aimed at limiting dangerous behavior on the roads, ensuring that road users reach their destinations safely, and maintaining smooth traffic flow.

During the operations, police officers will check, among other things:

  • compliance with speed limits on access roads to cities
  • the use of seat belts and child restraint systems
  • drivers’ sobriety and the technical condition of vehicles
  • compliance with restrictions and the ban on the movement of vehicles and vehicle combinations with a permissible gross vehicle weight exceeding 12 tonnes, excluding buses
  • the proper use of vehicles’ external lights
  • the use of reflective elements by pedestrians walking on roads after dark outside built-up areas.

During this special period, police officers from the prevention and criminal divisions will also be involved in intensified safety operations. Officers will patrol cemeteries and areas around churches. Railway and bus stations, as well as public transport, will also be subject to increased police supervision.

You can influence your own safety

The officers advise: Let us remember not to take more money to the cemetery than we need. Do not carry documents, money, keys or valuables in shopping bags or open large clothing pockets. Purses, wallets, phones and bank cards, as well as keys, should be kept in a closed inside pocket of your clothing. If we use public transport, we should always keep our handbag or backpack in front of us and hold it in our hand.

Let us not leave our belongings by graves without proper supervision. Sometimes all it takes is a moment of inattention—for example, walking away from a burial site to get water for flowers or taking rubbish to a bin—to become a potential victim of theft.

Let us be careful when getting on and off a bus. Whenever possible, avoid crowds and people we have just met (in this case, apply the principle of limited trust).

“Let us also remember that during the holidays, traffic volume increases considerably, especially around cemeteries. Fog and rain often make driving difficult. Let us adjust our speed to the conditions on the road. It is worth driving more slowly to reach our destination safely,” add the police officers from KWP Wrocław.
