The BKS Bolesławiec chess section operates at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre. It has 33 members registered with OZSzach and is a member of the Polish Chess Federation.
The section’s players are divided into age categories: there are 10 juniors and 23 seniors, including only one woman. A chess player’s strength is measured by their category (the so-called rating): 4 players have category II (rating 1800), 9 have category III, 5 have category IV, 5 have category V, and 5 players have no category and a rating of 1000. Categories are awarded by OZSzach at the request of tournament judges after a player earns the required number of points for classification. The next higher categories can be obtained in tournaments, including the Bolesławiec championship.
Chess tournaments are regularly organised at the BOK, enabling players to obtain categories, meet leading chess players from the region and study the latest chess literature. The president of the Chess Club, MSc Zbigniew Kazimierski, invites all enthusiasts of exercising their minds through this game to join the section. Section meetings are held every Tuesday and Saturday from 5 p.m.
