The visual artist MIECZYSŁAW ŻOŁĄDŹ (whose vignettes “Ludzkie Losy” and “Kronika miast” adorn every issue of “Głos”) has restored his own metalwork composition featuring a town map. It stands in front of the historic Town Hall in the Market Square and contains basic tourist information about the center of the town on the Bóbr, while also providing an apt decorative accent referring to the region’s traditions associated with copper mining.
“GOLDSMITHS” BY THE MOTORWAY
We warn potential travelers about fraudsters and swindlers who have taken up their “goldsmithing” scheme at the entrance to the motorway to Wrocław (next to the “Pod Kogutem” bar). The young people’s method is very simple: a car with foreign registration plates stands on the roadside, and the driver stops a selected vehicle and, in broken Polish, asks for petrol, which he has supposedly just run out of. Instead of cash payment, he offers a “gold” signet ring, or even two when someone is tempted by the bargain trinket. He “reduces” the price from 1 million old złotys to 200,000, which usually tempts the buyer. Only a jeweler confirms that a fraud has taken place.
SPRING SPORTS TOURNAMENTS
The multitude of sporting events makes it impossible to present them all in full. This time, we are making an exception for the municipal LZS, which held the spring football tournament “Wiosna ’95.” In Class “A,” LZS Bolesławiec won ahead of LZS Ociec and LZS Brzeźnik. In Class “B,” the athletes from Kruszyn triumphed ahead of Łąka, Nowa and Łaziska. The titles of top scorers went to Zdzisław Zając and Krzysztof Król, while the best goalkeepers were Mirosław Walski and Stanisław Matwiejczyk. In the spring table tennis tournament, the champions were: juniors – Marek Król (Żeliszów), Katarzyna Król (Żeliszów), Szymon Dakczuk (Bolesławiec); seniors: Jacek Buchowski (Żeliszów); open category: Norbert Stolicki (Bolesławiec).
