On 8 May, we celebrate World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day. Last year, we celebrated the 75th anniversary of our existence. In our activities, which grow every year, we are currently focusing particularly on charitable work for the residents of our city and municipalities (we operate in the former Bolesławiec County). Especially now, we feel that we are greatly needed, as families’ living conditions are appalling. Throughout all these years, we have provided assistance to those who, for various reasons, found themselves in difficult life situations. We reach poor, ill, lonely and lost people with support. We help families get through the current, very difficult period with dignity.
Our Association’s volunteers also focus on carrying out its statutory tasks, which include:
-sanitary training, that is, practical instruction in providing first aid before medical assistance arrives (we train approximately 500 people annually);
-we organize and promote voluntary blood donation, bring donors together in Honorary Blood Donor Clubs, and organize competitions with prizes, television programmes, talks and meetings;
-we provide health assistance, that is, promote proper hygiene habits among children and young people and prevent the most widespread diseases among the adult population; these activities include talks, art competitions, knowledge tests, health tournaments and more;
-our Branch participates in international humanitarian campaigns, most recently in Montenegro and Sasak;
-social care and assistance – including paying for rehabilitation stays for children with disabilities together with their parents; helping children go to “green school” programmes and summer camps; purchasing more than 1,500 meals in school canteens and for homeless people; paying energy bills and gas bills for families in extremely difficult material and living conditions; clothing from the Swedish Red Cross donations was received by 700 people; preparing food parcels for the holidays; helping refugees from the former Yugoslavia and people affected by fires; and trying to ensure that no one is left without help.
Despite all the difficulties, we wish to continue our work. Our activities are supported by workplaces, especially BFMM “POLFA”, ZCH “WIZÓW” and the Ceramic Works in B-cu. We would like to thank the City authorities, the District Court, the Prosecutor’s Office, the Bolesławiec Friends Society, B-c Local Television and BOK in B-cu.
We thank the owners of production plants, shops and wholesalers. The list of wonderful people is long, but if we managed to convince other institutions and workplaces to cooperate, assistance for people would be much greater.
