The school’s curriculum and working methods are generally focused primarily on the average student. In such a situation, both weaker students and those who are particularly gifted require special, individual treatment.
An important task of the school is therefore to “identify” gifted students. Participation in academic Olympiads and subject competitions provides an opportunity to develop talents. These events allow students to demonstrate initiative and creative activity, as well as develop their personalities.
Working with a gifted student is difficult and places greater demands on the teacher. The teacher’s role includes observing and inspiring the student, as well as introducing them to elements of scientific working methods. Participation in competitions beyond the school level—at district and national levels—gives the greatest satisfaction to both the student and their mentor.
It is a tradition at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące named after Wł. Broniewski to hold a ceremonial assembly every year at the turn of April and May. An important element of the event is highlighting the achievements of the Olympiad participants. This solemn moment in the life of the school is intended to motivate students to join the ranks of the best.
The achievements of the students and their mentors are not spectacular, considering that approximately 30% of students participate in the academic Olympiad movement at the school level every year, while nearly 10% reach the district and provincial levels.
In the current school year, at the highest level of academic Olympiads and subject competitions, the school was represented by 15 laureates and finalists.

Working with gifted students is part of the programme of the Society of Creative Schools, which brings together 30 general secondary schools in Poland. I Liceum Ogólnokształcące named after Wł. Broniewski in Bolesławiec is also a member of this group.
The academic Olympiad movement in secondary schools has existed for nearly 40 years. During this period, the Bolesławiec secondary school has produced 139 finalists, including 44 laureates. It can therefore be stated that the academic Olympiad movement has become a permanent element of the school’s operation, shaping its atmosphere and character.
