Confessions of a beautiful woman from Bolesławiec. I arranged an interview with a beautiful woman from Bolesławiec and... failed to keep my word: that day, a session of the Municipal Council happened to take place, and as a councillor I could not disregard my constituents. I am very sorry and apologize. Perhaps it turned out better this way, because our protagonist answered the questions I had left in writing. So we have an authorized interview, which we quote in full.
Paweł Śliwko
My name is Małgorzata Dłużyk and I was born in Bolesławiec. I feel younger than I look, although unfortunately I am already in my fourth year at the Lublin Medical Academy.
My mother persuaded me to enter this contest—MISS POLONIA'95. I did not go to the first stage of the contest in Zgorzelec because my father told me to forget about it and come back down to earth. But this time, too, I did not listen to him.
What motivated you to enter the contest? Hmm, I am one of the bold ones. I am a finalist in STUDENTKA ROKU'94 and MISS "LATA Z RADIEM'94". Without false modesty, I decided to have some fun, although I treat my participation in MISS POLONIA'95 with due reserve, since it is not the most important thing in my life.
On 12 February 1995, at the first qualifying round, I received the title of MISS PUBLICZNOŚCI and I VICE-MISS. Later, on 26 February 1995, the qualifying round for the Lower Silesia final took place at the "REDUTA" Casino Dance in Wrocław. There were 28 women here, from whom the honorable jury selected the final "thirteen." It was absolutely not an unlucky number—the thirteenth edition of the MISS DOLNEGO ŚLĄSKA contest, thirteen people competing for the title of the "most beautiful".
Why did I put the word in quotation marks? Nowadays, people do not speak of the most beautiful woman, but of the most versatile one. Yes—beauty, too. But today the judges look for something more. It should be mentioned that EWA TYLECKA from Dzierżoniów is the ultimate winner this year!!!
You ask me about my satisfaction with the titles I received. There certainly is some. But that is not why one takes part in events of this kind. It is well known that only childless, single young women can participate in the contest. So, meeting the contest’s initial requirements, I decided to set out from home. It is wonderful fun—the chance to meet wonderful people known in Poland and around the world. I had the pleasure of singing on stage with RYSZARD RYNKOWSKI, laughing together with STEFAN FRIEDMAN, and a frame of photographic film captured me with PIOTR FRONCZEWSKI... And along with all that, wonderful memories, friendships, trips... It is something unique, something that draws you in and encourages further action. Although good intentions alone are not enough.
I am wondering how to answer your next question. "What am I like? What do I like about myself, and what do I not like? What traits would I like to change in myself?" So, answering honestly—I am a very happy person and need nothing more for happiness. I have wonderful parents and a brother with his family. I have many people who are friendly toward me: the management of my workplace—the Medical Schools Complex—Ms. MA GRAŻYNA ZBIEG and MA ANNA DUMA. At this point, I would like to thank them very warmly for everything they have done for me.
I think that, from the rest of my statement, the readers of "Głos Bolesławca" will themselves conclude what I am really like. I am interested in social issues; in life I follow the motto of the Indian philosopher Mahatma Ghandi: "Until millions of hungry people have been fed, millions of ragged people clothed, neither I nor you—no one—has the right to possess anything that is not necessary to satisfy basic needs." That is why I am happy when I can help another person.
I dislike monotony; like every Capricorn, I love spending time in the mountains and "fighting" them on foot as well as by bicycle. Since yesterday—24 April 1995—I have been the owner of a mountain bike, which I received as a gift from the readers of "Słowo Polskie" for the title of MISS "SŁOWA POLSKIECO'95"
I thank ALL THOSE who had fun together with the most popular daily newspaper in Lower Silesia.
Do I have dreams for the future?—No!! I never plan anything; I do not know what I will be doing tomorrow, next week, next month, or next year. I do not know. In my everyday life "on a wing and a prayer," there is no time for dreams, and if there are any, they are very modest: health, love, good weather, and the smile that I pass on to everyone.
I am a student, and I must admit that I am constantly short of time. I am ashamed that I have not held any book other than a professional one in my hands for a long time. But never mind! I do have a Spanish phrasebook. I must know how to say "thank you, I’m sorry, please..." when I am on the sunny Costa Brava in Spain, and upon my return I will be sure to share my reflections and feelings. If anyone says that I have quite a pretty face, it is thanks to the LADIES who are preparing me to take part in the contest qualifiers. I thank Iwona Bogucka, owner of the Beauty Salon at 7 Grunwaldzka Street, and Wanda Puk, owner of the HAITI tanning salon at 47 d Staszica Street. I recommend the ladies’ professional services.
I admit that it was only thanks to them that I sometimes felt like a true lady, though not literally. They were the ones who helped me advance to the quarterfinals of the contest, which will take place in Warsaw on 20 May. I am very happy that I can go there, although at the same time I am worried and saddened that the MISS POLONIA'95 Organization Office will once again demand another deposit of 500 new złoty, which unfortunately I do not have.
Thank you, Sir, for inviting me to talk", I send my warmest regards to EVERYONE
Małgorzata Dłużyk
