"With emotion and affection, I look at the masthead of "GB", and my memory brings back the November days of 1945, when, as a seven-year-old boy, I came to Bolesławiec from a village near Kielce," writes Mr Edward Kowalczyk from Bogatynia. "In this city I grew up, matured and shaped my character along with it, until after 22 years I was forced to leave for Bogatynia, where I still live today. However, I am still in love with this city and consider myself a Bolesławiec patriot who cherishes in his memory thousands of episodes, situations and experiences connected with the city. I was prompted to write this letter by reading "GB", especially the article by Rev. Z. Lec about the history of the Roman Catholic church in Bolesławiec. For several years I was an altar server, and even served as chairman of the altar servers' circle until it was dissolved, so I have countless memories from that period. Unfortunately, the earlier history of the parish of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary was published in issues II/IV of 1994, hence my request to send me the entire 1994 annual volume /.../
In the article concerning the Jewish community, the author (ZB) writes about the probable destruction of the synagogue by the Nazis, but does not mention the ditches of the Jewish cemetery. I remember that the cemetery was in good condition, but apparently at the beginning of the 1950s it was completely destroyed and liquidated. Whose decision was this? Or was this written about in earlier issues of "Głos"?
Despite the short distance (77 km), I do not have many opportunities to visit "my" city, but recently I relived my youth for two whole days (1–2 May), spending hours walking through the streets, parks and corners so dear to me. On that occasion I am sending the solution to the crossword from issue 5 of "Głos", purchased during an unforgettable adventure in my hometown /.../ I wish the Editorial Office personal happiness and success in promoting the history and charms of our beautiful city.
Yours sincerely
Edward Kowalczyk,
