In April, the Bolesławiec city chess championships were held at the Chess Club at the Bolesławiec Cultural Centre.
Thirty-one players competed in two age categories. Among the juniors, of whom there were 12, Jacek Parpura proved unbeatable, scoring 11 points in 11 games. The next places went to Piotr Wańtuch with 10 points, Sebastian Podlasek with 7.5 points, Remigiusz Czernia with 7 points, and Zdzisław Żółtański with 7 points.
In the seniors’ group, which had 19 participants, Paweł Wodas won the title of Bolesławiec champion, scoring 16 out of a possible 18 points. Zbigniew Kazimierski took second place, also with 16 points, while Andrzej Kędzia came third with 15 points.
The next places went to Sławomir Graff – 14 points, Zbigniew Humenny – 13.5 points, Jan Zatylny – 11.5 points, and Henryk Majchrzak – 11 points. The only female participant in the championships, Stanisława Kozubek, took 19th place. Three juniors and six seniors achieved higher chess rankings in these championships.
The championship tournament was organised by Zbigniew Kazimierski, who, on behalf of the players and himself, expressed his appreciation and thanks to the sponsors for funding the prizes.
The “Ceramika Artystyczna” Artistic Handicrafts Cooperative in Bolesławiec funded six decorative vases and six plates bearing the inscription “Chess Championships – Bolesławiec ’95”.
The “Rolnik” Commercial and Services Enterprise in Bolesławiec allocated valuable books as prizes and gave the 19 chess players a year-round 10% discount on purchases at the company’s shop.
While congratulating the winners, I invite all enthusiasts of this beautiful game to the Chess Club.
