Youth is knocking at the gates of the guild headquarters, and that is a good sign of the times. EUGENIUSZ STACHOWSKI – Guild Master, as well as Vice-Chairman of the Chamber of Crafts in Wrocław – is working tirelessly. Recently (on 16 June), he chaired the competition jury for teams of young craftspeople from Jelenia Góra, Legnica, Lubin and Bolesławiec. The second stage of the competition, held under the slogan “The 50th Anniversary of Crafts in Lower Silesia,” took place in the old theatre. The finalists were: 1st place ex aequo – DANIEL CZŁONKA from Bolesławiec and AGNIESZKA NAPORA from Jelenia Góra; 2nd place – MARIAN URBANIK from Bolesławiec; 3rd place – KAMIL PASZEWSKI from Lubań. Everyone received valuable prizes, and the 8 best students – the finalists – will travel to Wrocław for the final competition. The winner can look forward to a tourist trip to Western Europe. Knowledge among young apprentices of the crafts is beginning to be highly valued. On this occasion, let us also mention the guest appearances, which were both successful, by students of the local Music School. The singing of the petite singer MAŁGOSIA MILEK, the performance by Cech alumnus KRZYSZTOF KASZUBA, and appearances by the youth orchestra and modern dance group were not merely interludes, but provided listeners and spectators with unforgettable experiences. A true aesthetic and artistic feast...
But June was also marked by difficult qualification examinations, now held in our town rather than in Wrocław. The convenience and economic savings are invaluable.
Two commissions assessed the knowledge and practical skills of candidates for journeyman and master qualifications in the following trades: vehicle mechanics and tinsmithing; baking and confectionery (around 30 people, 2 of whom failed the examinations); construction (including 2 candidates for the carpentry qualification); hairdressing (more than 20 people, 4 of them seeking the master qualification); and plumbing, sewage and central-heating installation. As part of the practical assessment, the masters carried out renovation and conservation work in the Guild building, as well as making new display cases and desks, demonstrating their expertise in their chosen profession before the examination commission. There is no need to elaborate on the benefits.
