Anyone entering the municipal cemetery through the main gate on Śluzowa Street notices the figure of Christ embracing children, standing beside the cross. It is the sculpture “Jesus, Friend of Children,” created by the eminent German artist Peter Breuer. It was donated in 1902 by the Prussian Ministry of Religious Affairs to the orphanage in Bolesławiec. After the war, it was moved from the property at Bankowy Square to its current location.
I am saddened to see it deteriorating. Perhaps someone will take an interest in its condition and carry out conservation work; it seems to me that the time is long overdue.
