The boards of the Bolesławiec Enthusiasts’ Society and the Association of the Drohobych Region in Bolesławiec launched a joint initiative to suitably commemorate the 50th anniversary of the arrival in our town of the first railway transport of Polish settlers from the former Eastern Borderlands of the Second Polish Republic, residents of the former Drohobych County. This took place on 17 September 1945. Witnesses to those events are still alive and wish to commemorate this historically important event on a local scale by unveiling a memorial stone obelisk with a commemorative plaque mounted in it.
The initiators of the undertaking, including Mr Adam KOWALSKI and retired Colonel Włodzimierz KOWALSKI, president of the Association of Combatants, approached the municipal authorities about locating the symbolic monument in the square in front of the PKP railway station and requested assistance with the architectural development of the space. The TMB Board will prepare the wording of the commemorative inscription, while the operator of a nearby quarry has undertaken to provide a suitable sandstone block free of charge and deliver it to the site using its own transport. Everything therefore indicates that in the autumn the town will gain a new monumental composition, and its residents will experience another patriotic ceremony commemorating the 50th anniversary of the return of the Bolesławiec Region to the motherland.
