Young environmentalists from Primary School No. 4 named after J. Matejko in Bolesławiec were the only representatives to take part in an environmental festival in Lubań on 11 June 1995. It was a summary of the year-long “Activities for Mother Earth.” Thirty schools from the Jelenia Góra voivodeship took part in the meeting. The young people prepared many events; there were exhibitions of albums and posters, as well as interesting environmental costumes (we wore costumes informing people about air pollution). Initially, the meeting took place in the amphitheatre, but the rain forced its relocation to the Community Centre. Hot military-style pea soup warmed our bodies, while the songs and sketches performed by the participants warmed the atmosphere of the meeting so much that no one wanted to leave. We took an oath; here is an excerpt:
“We, the daughters and sons of the Earth, declare that in the name of
our own lives and those who will come after us
we will not cease healing MOTHER EARTH until the rivers
become clean, the air unpolluted, and the soil
breathes freely, without toxins...”
Let us keep our oath... and the next meeting will be in a year – in Bogatynia...
