The oldest school in the town on the Bóbr deserves an appropriate celebration of its unusual jubilee. A memorial plaque was dedicated to the memory of a pioneering teacher. The Millennium School honored her memory by naming one of its classrooms the Stefania TAJCHER Forest Room. The museum collection here includes the striped uniform of a former prisoner of the concentration camp in Ravensbruck.
And perhaps the jubilarian school should be named after her? After the war, it bore the name of Bolesław Chrobry, and later that of General MC Jóźwiak Witold. At present, in practice, it remains nameless. The decision belongs to the Teachers’ Council and the student community.
I knew, respected and valued Mrs. STEFANIA; I admired her love for children, her dedication and her deep patriotism. She was Polish through and through, feeling it in every atom of her body throughout her long, beautiful, rich and solitary life. We would give Mrs. STEFANIA the greatest satisfaction by embedding in the wall of her school a stone plaque bearing the WORDS OF TRUTH OF POLES proclaimed at the Congress of Poles in Berlin in 1938:
"WE ARE POLES. THE FAITH OF OUR FATHERS IS THE FAITH OF OUR CHILDREN.
A POLE IS A BROTHER TO ANOTHER POLE. EVERY DAY, A POLE SERVES THE NATION. POLAND IS OUR MOTHER; WE MUST NOT SPEAK ILL OF OUR MOTHER."
This would crown the life credo of a wonderful teacher and serve as a patriotic message passed down through the generations, a relay that surely has no end...
