In view of the large number of escorted convoys—vehicles transporting oversized loads through the town—we remind drivers that the Highway Code requires them to enable the safe and prompt passage of a vehicle (the police escort vehicle and the escorted load) that is “in action” (with light or sound signals activated), including, where necessary, by completely leaving the occupied traffic lane and stopping the vehicle. Please understand that clearing the road takes much longer than stopping on the shoulder for a few minutes. Thank you for your understanding and respect for the law.
