Bolesławiec Cultural Centre has many successful initiatives extending beyond the region to its credit. It is enough to mention the National Ceramic and Sculpture Open-Air Workshop or the nationally renowned “Blues nad Bobrem”, not to mention its multifaceted (and exceptionally interesting) cultural activities on a daily basis.
The subsequent programme is summed up in the title slogan: “Cultural Centre – a European home”. The authors’ intention is to gain a better and fuller understanding of the great common home in which we live – Europe. The initiators also want others to get to know us – Poles and Poland – which will change our image in the world for the better. “We will endeavour to bring closer the problems and culture of the Baltic countries, the Scandinavian countries, and our western and southern neighbours,” the programme states. “We envisage cultivating cultural identity as an essential ability for intercultural partnership.”
There is nothing to add or take away. We wish you every success in carrying out these ambitious plans. At the same time, we encourage you to submit to BOK historical photographs and documents for the major exhibition being prepared here, “Yugoslavia as I Remember It ...”. Let us recall that in six months it will be 50 years since a compact group of 18,000 Polish returnees from southern Europe settled in Bolesławiec and the former Bolesławiec County, and we intend to give this important event on a local scale clear prominence, together with “Głos Bolesławca” and the Bolesławiec Enthusiasts’ Association.
