For the second time, a successful wafer-sharing celebration organized on the initiative of the school and the Parents’ Committee was held in the beautifully renovated community center in Nowa Wieś Kraśnicka. The students of the local primary school set the tone for the evening by performing a nativity play. The many residents of Nowa Wieś and Lipiany actively took part in the performance, singing beautiful Polish Christmas carols together with the angel choir. The young actors received thunderous applause.
Among the guests of honor were the parish priest, Canon Kazimierz Rzońca; the school principal, Jadwiga Ostrowska, MA; the village head, Lechosław Antoniak; and councilor Ryszard Wiśniewski.
They conveyed New Year’s wishes to those gathered, referring to the beautiful idea of forgiving one another for past grievances. After singing a carol together, those present shared the wafers, and in a wonderful atmosphere of mutual goodwill, the festivities began. In addition to competitions, a raffle was held. Last year, the school principal and the village head donated “live” prizes in the form of a goose and a rooster. This year, the circle of main prize sponsors was expanded to include the priest, the councilor, the Parents’ Committee and the residents of the housing estate. The prizes included beautiful paintings, a gold ring, an iron, a clock and a coffee set. It is impossible to name all the residents who enthusiastically joined the effort to collect prizes (every ticket won something in the raffle), but we would once again like to express our warmest thanks to all of them. All the students’ parents present supervised the smooth running of the event and also helped at the buffet, taking turns serving coffee and tea. Through Mrs. Józefa Orawiec, chairwoman of the Parents’ Committee, and her deputy, Z. Rajczakowski, who put an enormous amount of work into preparing this successful celebration, we extend our thanks to all the residents of Nowa Wieś and Lipiany.
They proved that the village respects its traditions and can combine them with a wonderful cultural celebration, whose proceeds for the school amounted this year to as much as 9,100,000 old zlotys.
