The Bolesławiec TAEKWON-DO GTF Club (the World Taekwondo Organization) is an association of supporters of the Korean art of self-defense, holding a license from the Polish Taekwon-do GTF Union. It has 27 members. They meet three times a week in the gymnasium of Primary School No. 5. They train under the guidance of their president, who is also a competitor, Krzysztof BRZYMOWSKI. When the president is on duty (he works professionally as a firefighter-rescuer in the State Fire Service), he is replaced by a colleague who also holds national referee qualifications – Waldemar SOCHA. Representatives of this Olympic discipline, starting with the next Olympic Games in Atlanta, are “defending” themselves against an influx of people eager to join. Why? Primarily because the rented hall cannot accommodate more people. The competitors pay for the gymnasium themselves (to be honest, the school management made it available to them on the most favorable terms). They purchase the necessary equipment and accessories. For the most part, they also “fund” their own trips to competitions. Some events, however, such as the Polish Championships and participation in last year’s European and World Championships, would not have been possible without the goodwill of Stanisław KOZŁOWSKI, Director of the Bolesławiec Vials and Ampoules Factory. Since we have already mentioned the participation of Bolesławiec residents in these events, let us record: -last year, Krzysztof BRZYMOWSKI won two Polish Championship titles in the up-to-80-kg weight category (direct combat and the individual strength test in the Yopha Jirusi technique). In addition, Mariasz SULMA took third place in the up-to-54-kg category, while Waldemar SOCHA came sixth in the up-to-63-kg category. The Bolesławiec competitors were ranked sixth as a team, even though only four of them traveled to the championships! -Krzysztof BRZYMOWSKI took fourth place at the European Championships in Switzerland and participated in the World Championships in England. Convinced that we will have many more opportunities to congratulate our competitors, we wish them perseverance in training and generous sponsors.
