On 15 October, powerlifting qualifying events for athletes took place in Legnica. Representatives of the Ognisko TKKF "Bolesławianka" took part in the qualifiers. The best performance came from Jolanta Anasiewicz, competing in the category up to 50.5 kg.
While observing the competition, the national women’s team coach, P. Bruno Gerschman, took an interest in Jola’s results and set the qualifying standard at 230 kg.
After a very good performance, our representative achieved the following results in the individual lifts: 75 kg in the squat, 62.5 kg in the bench press, and as much as 97.5 kg in the so-called deadlift, giving a total of 235 kg. This result would guarantee her a place on the Polish national team, as well as appearances at championship events both in Poland and abroad.
There is, however, one catch...
Ognisko TKKF is a purely recreational club, and its athletes are not registered with the Polish Weightlifting and Strength Sports Association; consequently, they cannot compete in events officially recognized as championship competitions.
However, as the section’s supervisor, P. Sławomir Rospondek, assures us, all formalities will be completed from the new year onward, and after that our friendly athletes’ path to fame will stand open.
The cost of registering the club is 500,000 zł, plus 100,000 zł for each athlete. Potential sponsors—weightlifting enthusiasts—are more than welcome. The gym section at the stadium on Spółdzielcza Street can be contacted. At the turn of November and December, the National Athletes’ Tournament will be held in Legnica, where our competitors, led by Jolanta, will present themselves. We wish them success!
